Welcome to Review Lens (the "Extension"). This Privacy Policy explains how the Extension collects, uses, stores, and protects your information.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Automatically Collected Data

When you visit review pages on App Store (apps.apple.com) or Google Play (play.google.com) and use the Extension, the Extension extracts the following publicly visible information from those pages:

  • Review content: Publicly posted review body and title
  • Username: Public display name of the reviewer
  • Rating data: Star rating (1–5)
  • Timestamps: Time of review publication
  • Engagement data: Upvote count, developer responses
  • Aggregate ratings: Overall average rating, rating count, and distribution

This data comes exclusively from pages you voluntarily visit. The Extension does not collect data from pages you do not access.

1.2 User Configuration Data

When using the Extension, the following configuration is stored locally:

  • AI service configuration: Your own AI API key, selected model, and API endpoint
  • Preferences: Auto-scan toggle, enabled platforms
  • Favorites: Product opportunity signals you manually bookmark

1.3 Data NOT Collected

The Extension does not collect any of the following:

  • Personal identification information (name, email, phone number, address, etc.)
  • Login credentials or passwords
  • Cookies or similar tracking technologies
  • Browsing history (beyond review page content extraction)
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers
  • Health or biometric data
  • Financial or payment information
  • Contacts or social relationship data
  • Audio, video, or photo content

2. How We Use Your Data

2.1 Local Data Processing

All review data extracted from pages is first processed locally in your browser, including:

  • Content fingerprinting: Generating unique identifiers for deduplication and anchoring
  • Aggregation analysis: Using AI models to analyze reviews and cluster them into product opportunity signals

2.2 AI Analysis Data Transmission

When you trigger the "scan" feature, review content is sent to the AI service provider you have configured:

  • Supported providers: Anthropic (Claude models) or OpenAI (GPT models), or any self-hosted service compatible with those API formats
  • Data transmitted: Review body, rating, and metadata (without your personal identification information)
  • Purpose: Solely to analyze review content and generate product opportunity signal summaries

Important: The AI API key is provided and stored by you locally. The Extension does not collect or reuse your API key.

2.3 Summary of Data Uses

All collected data is used exclusively for:

  1. Analyzing user reviews to identify product improvement opportunities and user needs
  2. Displaying analysis results in the Extension interface (signal list, badge indicators)
  3. Providing a personalized experience based on your preferences (favorites, auto-scan)
  4. Improving the Extension (using only aggregated, anonymous data)

3. Data Storage

3.1 Storage Method

All data is stored locally in your browser's chrome.storage.local, including:

  • Page analysis results (signal data)
  • Favorites list
  • Review index mappings
  • User configuration and preferences

3.2 Data Retention

  • Analysis results are retained locally until you delete signals or uninstall the Extension
  • Processed review indices are updated upon re-scan; older versions are automatically overwritten
  • Settings and configuration are removed when you clear browsing data via Chrome or uninstall the Extension

3.3 Data Deletion

You can delete your data in the following ways:

  • Delete a single signal: Click the delete button in the side panel
  • Clear all data: Uninstall the Extension, or use the "Clear storage" option in Chrome's Extension management page
  • Revoke access: Disable auto-scan or turn off platform toggles in the Extension settings

4. Data Sharing & Disclosure

The Extension does not:

  • Sell or rent your personal data to third parties
  • Share data with advertisers or analytics platforms
  • Use your data for AI model training
  • Use your API key for any purpose other than the review analysis you trigger

Limited data transmission occurs only when you actively trigger AI analysis: review content is sent to the AI service provider you configured (Anthropic or OpenAI), without your personal identification information. These third-party providers' data handling is governed by their own privacy policies:

5. Permissions

The Extension requires the following Chrome permissions:

Permission Purpose
storage Store analysis results, favorites, and settings locally
activeTab Read the active tab's URL to determine the platform type
sidePanel Display analysis results and signal lists in the browser side panel
host_permissions Inject content scripts only on App Store and Google Play review pages

The Extension does not request or use unnecessary permissions.

6. Data Security

We take the following measures to protect your data:

  • All data transmission is encrypted over HTTPS
  • AI API keys are stored locally and transmitted only via HTTPS Authorization headers to your configured endpoint
  • No cookies, web beacons, or other tracking technologies are used
  • The code is designed with the principle of least privilege, processing only publicly visible review data on the current page

7. Children's Privacy

This Extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child has provided personal information to the Extension, please contact us to have it removed.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Material changes will be communicated through the Extension's update notes.
